Why a substrate, and why now.
The case for building the integration, provenance, and unit-economics layer for enterprise AI — before the standards converge.
The N×M problem is not theoretical.
A typical $5B enterprise in 2026 runs between 3 and 8 AI agent vendors — OpenAI, Anthropic, Salesforce Agentforce, ServiceNow, Microsoft Copilot, and a handful of specialists. Each of those agents needs to call systems of record: SAP, Workday, Salesforce CRM, Snowflake, ServiceNow ITSM.
The math is not friendly. If you have 6 agent vendors and 12 systems of record, you have up to 72 point-to-point integration surfaces to build, maintain, and keep alive as both sides evolve their APIs. In practice, enterprises report 48–120 live integration surfaces before they even attempt to standardize. Each surface has its own auth scheme, retry logic, error handling, and undocumented breaking-change risk.
The result: a median of 14–18 weeks to bring a single new agent vendor into production against SAP. Platform engineers who should be building new agent workflows spend their quarters firefighting integration drift.

The provenance problem is a liability.
53% of enterprises today cannot reconstruct an AI-driven decision 90 days after it happened. That is not a technical curiosity — it is a regulatory exposure. The EU AI Act, active for high-risk systems from August 2026, requires Annex IV-compliant documentation for every automated decision that affects a person. India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil are 12 to 24 months behind, but their obligations are structurally similar.
Existing GRC tooling was built for software systems, not AI agents. They capture what code ran, not what prompt was used, which model responded, what data was retrieved, what policy was evaluated, and who authorized the action. The gap is not a configuration problem — it is an architectural one.
The cost problem is a CFO problem now.
Median Fortune 500 AI spend grew from $11M to $48M year over year, yet 71% of those companies cannot break that number down by use case, agent, or outcome. AI FinOps tools don't exist yet in the way cloud FinOps tools do. Apptio and Cloudability track cloud infrastructure. They do not track model tokens, agent SaaS fees, integration engineering effort, and human-review hours in a single attributed view.
62% of F500 CFOs now require per-agent cost/benefit attribution as a condition of continued AI investment. This is not a nice-to-have — it is the funding gate for the next wave of deployments. Without attribution, AI spending looks like a research expense, not a business investment.

MCP and A2A are converging into a common protocol — but the messy middle will last 36+ months. During that window, someone has to be Switzerland: vendor-neutral, fast at onboarding any agent, and trusted to hold the evidence ledger and the cost ledger.
When Stripe launched in 2010, the payments industry was fragmented — card networks, acquirers, gateways, and banks all had different protocols and requirements. Stripe built the abstraction layer that made it irrelevant which card network a transaction used. Developers coded once. The substrate handled the complexity underneath.
When card network standards converged over the following decade, Stripe didn't disappear. The integration fabric, the compliance posture, and the financial reporting had become the product. Developers had no reason to rebuild what was already working.
Aarvion is that substrate for enterprise AI. We are not betting that the standards won't converge — we are betting that the integration, provenance, and attribution value compounds regardless of which protocol wins. The 40+ system manifests you build today don't get thrown away when MCP v1.0 ships. The evidence ledger doesn't become less valuable when the regulator changes the form. The cost attribution data doesn't deprecate when your CFO asks a harder question.
Why now, and why us.
The window for the substrate play is narrow. Once the first $5B enterprise standardizes on a point solution for agent integration, the switching cost rises sharply. The evidence ledger and cost history become too valuable to migrate. The integrations are too embedded to rebuild.
We are building Aarvion in the 18-month window before that standardization happens. Our design partner cohort is the six enterprises that are furthest ahead on enterprise AI deployment — the ones who are already feeling the N×M pain, the provenance liability, and the CFO pressure most acutely. They will shape the product. Their use cases will become the pre-built adapters. Their regulatory requirements will become the evidence packs.
The substrate that wins will be the one that is in production first, with the deepest integration library, the most trusted evidence ledger, and the clearest cost attribution story. That is what we are building.
